In the current state of the world brought about by the global pandemic, travelling for leisure isn’t the easiest thing to do. Fans of visiting countries around the globe for the first time have had to find alternative ways to peak their interest. Fortunately, with the rollout of the Pfizer vaccine on the horizon, it may finally be the perfect time to start planning your explorations once again.
With this in mind, I’ve listed a bunch of interesting things to do in London, places to visit while maintaining social distancing measures (as it’s always smart to be safe), and the best spots that I would personally recommend to take your mind off things in such a stressful time for everybody.
If you’re a fan of the outdoors, and are willing to take a 30 minute train ride outwards of Central London, places to visit are endless. One spot in particular that could take your liking is the beautiful Kew Gardens, open all year round in Richmond.
Although it may not be everyone’s cup of tea on paper being half an hour away from the main hub of London, especially with closer outdoor spaces such as Kensington Gardens, Crossrail Place Roof Garden and Chelsea Physic Garden all being far closer, it goes without saying that visiting the Kew Royal Botanic Gardens is one of the best things to do in London. Not only is it the largest UNESCO World Heritage site in the city, but it also provides a wide display of plants, landscapes and stunning architecture which are bound to be enough to excite even those who don’t usually gravitate towards such places.
Additionally, it’s a great chance to visit to a place that doesn’t force a large group of people into a tight space, as many restaurants and other indoor activities would, meaning that any concerns regarding individuals ignoring social distancing will naturally be less of an issue when here at Kew Gardens.
If you want to avoid the busy London Underground, have some time to spare, or are simply looking for some more things to do in London, it could be worth taking an hour out of your day to walk from one side of the city to the other.
Whether or not you’re keen on exercise, the stunning architecture of London will be more than enough to distract you from what you’re doing. The places to visit and see range from historic buildings such as the Houses of Parliament, which are visually stunning even from afar and especially at night, along with Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and St Pauls Cathedral, to more modern buildings such as the Shard, and streets such as Oxford Street and Piccadilly Circus. Alongside all of this, walking alongside the Thames will never refrain from providing some of the best views at night that London has to offer.
Camden Town is known by many as an artistic capital of London, due to the extravagant display of painted and decorated building fronts which make it an essential one of London’s many places to visit.
Along with the artsy side that the town is known for, Camden Market presents an opportunity to discover interesting and ever changing stores and traders, as no two days there are ever the same, giving more than enough reason for somebody to return time and time again and discover something new every time.
Of course, these are only a few of many things to do in London, but there are many more places to visit that are worth the time. If you enjoyed this post, make sure to check our more of my blog posts on the site.
